Default Site Logo format change in v3.3

Post by invenio »

Am I correct in the fact that the default site logo in prosilver (phpBB default theme) was changed to .svg format from the previous .gif? I upgraded my board (from v3.2.) and noticed the site_logo.gif file was no longer present, it has been replaced by an .svg file of the same name.

Any reason for this change as .svg is less common (and harder to find an editor) than .gif? Thanks.

svg is scalable so looks sharp on any screen at any resolution, where GIFs will look blocky or blurred.

A good free tool for working with svg is Inkscape
My phpBB styles: phpbbstyles.oo.gd
My board: iansvivarium.com

Also bearing in mind you are not "required" to edit the provided site_logo.svg at all... the only person who "must" have an .svg editor in response to this change is the author of the prosilver style.

If you're changing or replacing the logo image -- and you don't particularly like using .svg, or don't think it's necessary or appropriate for your logo -- you're free to use whatever format you want when changing the logo.

Just modify the site_logo CSS in /styles/prosilver/theme/colours.css (or in your derived theme) to point to whatever image file you would rather use:

Code: Select all

.site_logo {
	background-image: url("./images/site_logo.svg");
}

Best to follow Knowledge Base - How to change your board logo.

Yes, that's correct. Either way, you can change your logo just as before, to any type(jpg, gif, png, ...) and size, as mentioned above.

Thanks for this, just upgraded to v3.3 and have replaced the logo with a blank/clear one I saved as a gif. I edited the colours.css file from .svg to .gif as given (thanks again) on line 152 in an editing program and also saved a copy of both files in case of trouble. Adobe XD won't install on W7 btw but inkscape did but I used photoshop anyway to save the gif file.I hope it helps someone else :)
